algorithms and bias

So basically algorithms exist and can do many things. Are they bias tough? Well...yes but actually no. It's complicated but simple. They were made by specific people at times when things were very different. Is that bias? Not really its a computer something that we control, manipulate and make do things. though this isn't the first time I have heard of this.
In my free time I sometimes make YouTube videos on various topics and one big thing talked about is the algorithm and the bias it has towards specific videos and demonetization practices. Basically it lets some things slide while others are HEVILLY scrutinized.
These examples are something that I have not heard of but makes some semblance of sense when you think about it logically. The machine isn't being biased here as it's merely following a program that wasn't tested fully. the difference in facial recognition and YouTube are vastly different but it make somethings very clear. technology is fast but society can out pace it sometimes.
In my view computers are computers. They can be taught, they can be upgraded and can controlled for the most part. Until a computer has sentience, and by that I mean make a decision free from programed and or change it's programing without external input, then maybe I can see it. but then we're talking about the matrix and /or terminator so yeah. All we can do is learn and try to understand what's wrong and fix the issues with either creating or rewriting the code used.
